Wobbly tables are the most common complaint in a dining room and the easiest to design out. The base has to be sized to the top — a small pedestal under a large top will tip and rock — and every base needs adjustable glides because no restaurant floor is truly level. Cross bases suit square tops, a wider disc base suits rounds, and two-top tables that get pushed together need bases that line up when they do.
Tops chosen for the service
A table top in a restaurant sees hot plates, cutlery and sanitiser several times a night. Solid timber with a commercial finish is warm and can be refinished; laminate and compact laminate are tough and economical; stone is beautiful and heavy, which affects the base and how often tables can be moved. Making a tight room work
