How a reeded panel is actually made

Reeded and fluted panels are not a wallpaper effect. Each rib is machined or applied to a substrate, then the whole panel is finished as one piece so the profile reads continuously across a wall. The spacing and the depth of the rib decide how the wall behaves in light — a shallow, tight reed reads as texture, a deeper one throws real shadow and changes through the day. We make a sample in the specified profile and finish before committing to a run.

Substrate and finish, and why they are chosen together

MDF takes paint beautifully and is stable, which makes it the usual choice for a painted feature wall. Veneered panel is the choice where you want the grain to run across the room. Solid timber is specified where the profile is deep or the panel will be handled. The finish follows from that decision rather than being chosen afterwards: a sprayed lacquer suits MDF, an oil or hardwax suits solid timber, and the two will not match if you mix them across one wall.
