What a bespoke display has to survive

A retail fixture is handled by the public every day for years, so the failure points are predictable: edges that get knocked by bags, shelf pins that work loose, and finishes that scuff where hands rest. We detail for that rather than for a photograph — solid lipping on exposed edges instead of thin tape, metal shelf standards where a fixture will be re-merchandised often, and finishes chosen for how they repair rather than how they look on day one.

Matching a brand standard

Most brands arrive with a finish schedule rather than a free hand: a specific paint reference, a laminate code, a metal tone. We work to the sample and produce a control panel for sign-off before the run starts, because a finish approved on a screen and a finish approved in the room are rarely the same colour. Where a spec names a material we cannot source in the timeframe, we say so at drawing stage, not after.

Built to ship and rebuild

A display that cannot get through a shop door is a liability. For anything travelling, we build in sections that knock down to fit a standard freight pallet and reassemble on site with concealed hardware, so the join does not read from the customer side. It costs a little more in the shop and saves considerably more in access problems, damage in transit, and the cost of a crew waiting.

Common questions

How long does a bespoke retail display take?
Standard production and delivery timing is 5 to 8 weeks from approved drawings, driven more by finish and material lead times than by machine time. Rollouts of repeated units take longer to start and then move quickly, because the first unit absorbs the engineering. Tell us the store-open date at enquiry and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.
What is the difference between a stock and a bespoke display?
A stock display is sized to the catalogue and you merchandise around it. A bespoke display is sized to your floor, your product and your sightlines, which usually means more selling area in the same footprint and a fixture that reads as part of the brand rather than as shopfitting.
Can displays be made to knock down for shipping?
Yes, and for anything shipping or going into a building with tight access we recommend it. We design the joins so assembly is a small number of concealed fixings and the seams fall where they are not seen from the customer side.
Can you produce multiples to the same standard?
That is what a fixture family is for. The first unit is prototyped and signed off, then becomes the control for the rest, with the same jigs, the same finish batch where possible and the same hardware schedule, so units built weeks apart still match on the shop floor.
What drives the cost of a bespoke display?
Material and finish first, access and installation second, and quantity third. Solid timber and specialist finishes cost more than veneered panel; a fixture that has to be assembled in a basement costs more than one that rolls in. We quote per project because any figure given without dimensions and a finish is a guess.

Plan your piece

The right details make a better brief.

Whether the project starts as a custom furniture quote, a luxury furniture commission, a commercial millwork package, or an FF&E procurement request, the workflow is structured around dimensions, materials, budget, drawings, and delivery.

  • Approximate dimensions and how the piece will be used.
  • Material, finish or upholstery references.
  • Quantity, target date and delivery city or ZIP code.

Shipping is quoted separately based on the product and delivery location.
