Request Quote →Philadelphia's rowhouses are the reason we ask about stairs before we ask about fabric. Narrow front doors, tight landings and the winding stairs of trinity houses stop plenty of furniture that would suit the room perfectly. Before drawing anything we ask for the doorway width, the stair width and the tightest turn on the way up. When a piece will not make that turn in one part, we design it to travel in sections: a banquette as a seat base with a separate back, a long table with legs that bolt on, a sofa built as modules that lock together in the room.
Older Philadelphia homes have plaster walls that lean, floors that slope toward the street and alcoves that are a different width at the top than at the bottom. A freestanding bookcase pushed into that alcove leaves a gap you notice every day. Built-in pieces such as window seats, bookcases, media walls and closet fittings are made slightly oversize at the edges and trimmed to the actual wall when they are installed, so the finished piece looks like it was always there.
A narrow rowhouse kitchen often cannot spare the clearance that chairs need to pull back from a table. A banquette along one wall gives that space back: the seat is fixed, so nobody needs room behind it. As a starting point a seat depth of 18 to 20 inches, a seat height around 18 inches and roughly 24 inches of bench length per person work for most tables. We adjust those numbers to the room, the table and the people using it, and storage drawers or lift-up seats can go in the base.
For businesses we build banquettes and booths, host stands, bar fronts, cashwraps, display shelving and feature walls. Commercial pieces go through shop drawings and finish approval before any material is cut, so the owner, the designer and the contractor all sign off on the same dimensions. Upholstery uses contract-grade fabric or the customer's own material, and we schedule delivery around trading hours and the building's loading rules.
You send dimensions, photos of the space and any reference images. We reply with a written quote, normally within one business day, and then prepare drawings for approval. Everything is built and finished in our Cranford shop, wrapped, and brought down by our own team, who install it and take the packaging away. Standard production and delivery timing is 5 to 8 weeks, depending on scope, materials and the finish schedule.
