How we work with designers

Most Manhattan commissions come through an interior designer or architect, and the process is built around them. We work from their drawings and finish schedule, propose construction where the drawing leaves it open, and return shop drawings for approval. Questions go to the designer rather than around them, and changes are agreed in writing before they reach the shop.

Customer's own material upholstery

Designers often specify a particular fabric or leather from their own sources. We upholster in customer's own material: tell us the fabric and we will give you the yardage needed for the piece, including allowance for pattern matching. Fabric is checked when it arrives so any fault is found before it is cut, not after.

Apartment delivery

Apartment buildings bring their own constraints: service elevators, delivery hours, building management rules and, in co-ops, sometimes board requirements for contractors. We plan large pieces to pass through the route to the apartment, which may mean a sofa frame or a dining table made to be assembled in the room. Tell us the building's rules early and the delivery is planned around them.

Getting the scale right for the room

Manhattan apartments run from compact studios to very large prewar rooms, and furniture scaled for a showroom often looks wrong in either. In a compact room a slightly smaller footprint and a raised base keep the floor visible and the room feeling open. In a large room with high ceilings a piece has to hold its own, which can mean a taller back or a heavier top. We work out the scale against your floor plan and ceiling height before drawing details.

Common questions

Do you work with interior designers in Manhattan?
Yes. We build from the designer's drawings and specification, produce shop drawings for approval, and keep the designer as the point of decision throughout.
Can you upholster in our own fabric?
Yes. We work in customer's own material, give you the yardage required including pattern matching, and inspect the fabric on arrival before cutting.
Can a large sofa fit into a Manhattan apartment?
We design large pieces around the access route. Where a piece will not pass in one, it can be built to assemble in the room.
Can you meet building management requirements?
Tell us the building's rules, delivery hours and any insurance requirements when you request a quote, and we plan the delivery to meet them.
Can you scale a design to a small apartment?
Yes. We adjust the footprint and proportions to your floor plan and ceiling height so the piece suits the room.
Can related pieces be made to match each other?
Yes. Where a designer wants a dining table, sideboard and console to read as one family, we make them from the same timber batch and finish them together so colour and grain match. Pieces made months apart from different batches rarely match as closely, so it is worth planning related pieces as one commission.

Plan your piece

The right details make a better brief.

Whether the project starts as a custom furniture quote, a luxury furniture commission, a commercial millwork package, or an FF&E procurement request, the workflow is structured around dimensions, materials, budget, drawings, and delivery.

  • Approximate dimensions and how the piece will be used.
  • Material, finish or upholstery references.
  • Quantity, target date and delivery city or ZIP code.

Shipping is quoted separately based on the product and delivery location.
